Program Statement:
The
Arkansas Department of Emergency Management under the authority
granted by Act 247 of 1989 "AN ACT TO ESTABLISH A STATE EARTHQUAKE
PREPAREDNESS PROGRAM WITHIN THE ARKANSAS OFFICE OF EMERGENCY SERVICES " works
to insure the safety and wellbeing of the citizens of Arkansas
from the risk associated with earthquakes within the state of Arkansas,
as well as from seismic events outside the state which would have
a direct effect on the state. The Earthquake Program carries out
this mandate in a number of program areas. The law places emphasis
on earthquake mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery
related functions, requiring the full cooperation of all other
state and local government agencies, departments, and personnel.
The Program is required to coordinate comparable functions of the
Federal government including its various departments and agencies
with other states and localities, and with private agencies of
every type.
