Program Statement:
Ohio is at the beginning of its NEHRP efforts. The state has been in the program for two years and has developed a two-pronged approach. The first approach has been to develop a network of computers and seismometers in volunteering universities and facilities across Ohio. By this means we can monitor seismic events and analyze the information in order to determine the threat posed to Ohio

Please go to the following URL and open the links to OhioSeis and the Geology of Ohio/ Geological Hazards for more information on this fascinating subject.

The second approached is focused on the Ohio counties that have the greatest vulnerability to earthquakes or are in the best position to monitor seismic events for a region in the state. These counties include Hamilton, Clermont, Montgomery, Shelby Auglaize, Allen, Athens, Geauga, Ashtabula and Cuyahoga.

Computers and MapInfo software were purchased for all of these counties and plans are in the works to get them all trained on HAZUS next year. After the training they will be able to update their databases and develop a hazards analysis as their basis for planning, preparedness and mitigation.
